If you have never
worked with transfer paper, it may take you some
time to figure out what works best for you and
the type of printer/transfer paper you have.
Below we have provided basic instructions and
tips to use when working with transfer paper.
Supplies You Need
1. One of our
Iron-On Graphic Designs (find
them here)
2. Iron-On Transfer Paper
3. Item to Create (T-Shirt, Tote
Bag, Pillow Case, etc.)
4. Clothes Iron
5. Hard Surface
(such as a Counter Top or Table. Do NOT use an
Ironing Board).
6. Scissors
7. Cotton pillowcase or cloth to place over
hard surface
Instructions
1. Using your
Inkjet printer, print the design onto Transfer
Paper (Follow the instructions with the transfer
paper you have purchased to print your design.
Each transfer paper may vary. It's best to
experiment and find out what works best for you.
)
Depending on your computer and
printer properties, you may have to adjust the
print layout. We suggest that you select to fit
the image to the page when printing. This will
give you the largest image, while keeping it
within the page. If you want to do a smaller
design, you can resize the image in a paint
program such as Paint Shop Pro or Corel.
Note: We highly suggest that you
do a test print on regular paper before printing
onto your transfer paper.
2. Trim excess paper from the
transfer image, leaving a 1/4 inch border around
the image.
3. Preheat Iron to Hottest setting. You want
your iron to be dry (No Steam).
4. Place a pillow case or cloth
over your hard surface and iron out any
wrinkles. Then place your item (T-Shirt, Tote
Bag, Pillow Case, etc) onto the hard surface and
iron out any wrinkles (this also removes any
moisture in the fabric).
5. Position the transfer paper
with your design face-down onto your item, in
the exact location where you want your design to
be.
6. Place the iron over the
transfer paper and then press hard. Start at the
corners and move the iron in small circles
around the outside of the transfer paper, and
then start moving toward the center. Make sure
your iron overlaps the edges and corners so that
all areas of the paper get transferred, and keep
the iron moving.
Tip: Refer to the transfer paper packaging for
recommended ironing times. Depending on the size
of your design, the ironing time can range from
one to three minutes.
7. Gently life one corner of the
transfer paper away from the item. Continue to
peel until you have removed the entire paper.
Tip: Peel off transfer while
item is hot for a matte finish.
Peel off transfer while item is cold for
a glossy finish.
And you are now finished! Enjoy
your new creation!
Helpful Tips:
Make sure you
print on the correct side of the transfer paper.
Check the fabric content of your
T-Shirts. Some transfer paper does NOT work well
on 100% cotton shirts. Try a 50/50 blend.
Experiment on a piece of scrap
fabric with different settings before ironing
onto your item.
Hard Pressure is needed to get
good adhesion for the transfer.
Using circular motion all over
helps prevent from scorching.
When you think you are done, test a corner to
see if transfer took, if not keep pressing.
If printing on colored fabrics,
make sure you get transfer paper for colored
fabrics.
If printing smaller images, you
may be able to fit more then 1 image per
transfer sheet.
Washing Tips For Finish Items:
-
Machine wash
cold; do not dry clean.
-
Use only
Color-safe detergent.
-
No chlorine
bleach.
-
Remove
promptly from washer. Colors may bleed if
left wet too long. If bleeding occurs,
rewash immediately.
-
Tumble dry
low. Tip: Add a towel to improve drying.
-
Do not iron a
transferred image.
Note: Some people
suggest hanging the item to dry right side out,
instead of using your dryer. |
